historical town

Towards the end of 2008, it was another holiday season that suitable for some travels. This time, we decided to head to the town of history, Malacca. It was indeed a short trip, we spend 2 days traveling around the town and also spend sometime in Tampin, which is a small town at the border of Malacca and Negeri Sembilan.

It was about 3 hours drive from KL to Malacca, we arrived at the apartment owned by our colleague's family at A'Famosa around noon time. After some discussion, we decided to head to Malacca town for lunch. The traffic was very bad, we took about 3 hours to travel a journey that normally take half an hour due to the holiday season. We arrived at a famous shop that sell local food and did some shopping and next we headed to Jonker Street and started to hunt for their famous food - chicken rice ball. It was quite disappointing that we were there late ~ 3pm and the famous shop had closed. However, there are still a few shops selling chicken rice ball, so we picked one with the longest queue outside, assuming that that would be the most delicious; and it turned out to be the wise choice. Though not as good as the most famous shop. After lunch, we spent sometime walking along Jonker Street and checkout some nice old building. It was my second visit to Jonker Street, the first time was back in March 2008, and I visited there at night. It was quite different at night, as there will be more stalls selling various kind of food, toys, etc.

Leaving Jonker Street at about 5pm, we walked to the opposite of the parking area and paid a visit to the historical building - Malacca Red Houses. We spent some time taking photo and relax there then we decided to head to The Eye on Malaysia. The Eye on Malaysia is a 60 meter tall portable ferris wheel that open for public ride, it has a great view that allow the visitor to have a glimpse on Malacca seashore. After the ride, we headed to town for another round of food feast, this time, we chose Satay Celup, another must-eat food in Malacca. Satay Celup is more like steamboat but only the soup is replaced by the hot boiling Satay sauce. Again, we were late, not that the shop was closed, but the queue is unbelievable long due to famous of the shop, so instead of waiting, we decided to head to another shop that sells the same food. It was not our dinner, as we decided to head to MD's house for dinner, her mom actually prepared a lot of food for us. Thanks!

On 2nd day, we headed to Tampin for their famous noodle - Longkang Mee for breakfast, then we decided to spend 2nd day on A'famosa itself. The first place that we visited is the safari, it is a zoo that has animal shows and cowboy show. The cowboy show was hilarious, we had a great time watching it. However, due to ak47 need to rush back home earlier, so we decided to call it a day and started to pack and head back to KL.

Overall, the trip was quite relax except for the traffic jam part. Some side notes that you may want to consider during your visit to Malacca:
1. Prepare a map, a lot of street in Malacca is one direction, just in case you miss any junction.
2. Try visit Jonker Street at night, it is a total different feeling from day time.
3. Cowboy town at A'famosa is only available at night time, another good place to pay a visit.
4. Night safari at Malacca Zoo is one of the attraction too.
